Consumed by grief and wrath after the ruin of his people in the Dagor Bragollach, Fingolfin, High King of the Noldor, rode alone upon his mighty steed Rochallor across the lands of Anfauglith. Reaching the gates of Angband, he sounded his horn and challenged Morgoth himself to single combat — a final act of defiance against the Dark Lord.
